Reasons for Pelvic Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy gives your doctor a direct view of the reproductive organs. This can help your doctor find out what's causing problems such as pain, bleeding, or difficulty getting pregnant. Depending on the cause, treatment is sometimes part of the same surgery. Talk with your doctor about this possibility before the surgery. Conditions often diagnosed and treated are shown below.

Tubal pregnancy occurs when an embryo implants in a fallopian tube. Untreated, the tube can rupture and bleed.

A fibroid (lump of uterine muscle tissue) can cause pain and bleeding.

Endometriosis (growth of uterine lining tissue outside the uterus) can lead to pain, bleeding, and difficulty getting pregnant.

A cyst (fluid-filled sac) or tumor (abnormal growth) can form on the ovary. This can cause pain and other health problems.

Adhesions (scar tissue) can cause pain and difficulty getting pregnant.

A blocked or damaged fallopian tube can cause difficulty getting pregnant.
