The latest techniques in hysterectomy, with the expertise that you want

Gynecology has come a long way in recent years, giving doctors and patients alternatives to hysterectomy for conditions like heavy bleeding or pelvic pain. Sometimes, however, hysterectomy is still necessary. If you’ve been told that you need a hysterectomy, be sure to explore all of your options. At Women’s Healthcare of Southern Indiana, Dr. Dunn is highly experienced with all hysterectomy proceedures and offers the latest, minimally invasive techniques.

Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy

Dr. K.C. Dunn is skilled and experienced with the laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy (LSH) procedure. With LSH, three to four tiny incisions in the abdomen are all that’s needed for removal of the uterus.

Unlike other hysterectomy surgeries, this procedure leaves the opening to the uterus – the cervix – intact. Leaving the cervix may help you avoid problems related to pelvic floor support in the future, such as urinary incontinence. It may also help preserve sexual response.

With LSH, you can expect a shorter hospital stay (usually just one night), faster recovery and less postoperative pain and scarring than with other hysterectomy approaches.

To learn more about LSH and other advanced hysterectomy techniques, schedule a consultation at Women’s Healthcare of Southern Indiana. Your provider will answer all your questions, explain the different treatment options available and give you the complete information you need to make the best decision for yourself about surgery.
